One person is dead after a fire in Porters Lake, N.S., said Jim Stymiest, Assistant Chief of  operations for Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Services in a media advisory Saturday.

Halifax Fire Services responded to a report of an outdoor fire near the 700 block of Myra Road at approximately 10 p.m. Friday. This was updated to a structure fire after multiple callers made additional reports.

When firefighters arrived, they discovered a two-story home on fire. Firefighters could not enter the home because of the size and intensity of the fire.

One resident was found deceased on the scene.

Stymiest said the home was extensively damaged before firefighters gained control of the fire around 11:45 p.m.
