A man has died following a climbing accident at Mount Nemo Conservation Area Monday, prompting a high-angle rope rescue by Burlington firefighters.
Emergency crews were called to the base of the Lookout Trail shortly before 3 p.m. after reports that a climber had fallen.
Fellow climbers and hikers reportedly performed CPR until firefighters rappelled down the cliff and took over. The man was reportedly found without vital signs and pronounced dead at the scene by Halton paramedics.
A second climber, who had been climbing with the victim, was rescued after being found anchored to a ledge about 15 feet from the top of the cliff. He was reportedly uninjured but unable to ascend without assistance.
Firefighters used rope systems to bring the surviving climber to safety. No further injuries were reported.
Police have not released the name, age, or place of residence of the climber who died.
