Only 20 votes separate top two candidates in this Ontario riding [Video]

Counting in a Mississauga riding has ended with the incumbent candidate apparently winning by just 20 votes in Thursday’s provincial election, though a recount is likely.

With 100 per cent of polls reporting, Ontario Progressive Conservative candidate Sheref Sabawy received 16,665 votes (44.25 per cent) to Ontario Liberal candidate Qasir Dar’s 16,645 (44.20 per cent), according to Elections Ontario.

Following them, Ontario NDP candidate Mubashir Rizvi received 2,087 votes (5.54 per cent), and Green Party candidate Adriane Franklin got 1,087 votes (2.89 per cent).

In the 2022 provincial election, Sabawy received 15,693 votes (42.15 per cent) to the Liberal candidate’s 13,954 (37.48 per cent).

It is by far the closest race in Mississauga in Thursday’s election.

Nevertheless, the Progressive Conservative candidates won all other ridings in the city with healthier margins.
