An Ontario bar is facing a licence suspension after allegedly overserving a patron, which led to their death.

Yesterday, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) issued a Notice of Proposal towards the bar My Friends Place in Woodstock, ON.

The proposal — a 60-day liquor licence suspension — was issued following an investigation connected to the death of a patron, which occured on Oct. 6, 2024.

According to the AGCO, at the time of the incident, a patron was allegedly overserved alcohol after appearing visibly intoxicated.

This behaviour was also coupled with the licensee permitting intoxication on their premises — both infractions under Ontario’s Liquor Licence and Control Act.

AGCO representatives further allege that after the over-service took place, the patron then fell outside the bar and struck his head.

He was then rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
