Ontario community celebrates ground-breaking of new recreation centre [Video]

Clarington broke ground on the South Bowmanville Recreation Centre on Thursday, a multi-sport destination that will feature a FIFA-sized dome with an indoor walking track; two FIBA-sized basketball courts adaptable for net sports like pickleball, tennis, and volleyball; a refrigerated outdoor skating trail designed for year-round events like summer markets; and multi-purpose rooms for recreational programming.

The former Bowmanville Indoor Soccer Centre will also add a brand-new aquatics centre to meet the growing needs of Clarington’s swim-loving community in phase 2. Additional multi-purpose programming rooms will also be added in the second phase.

The current lacrosse bowl will remain on site.

“What an incredible milestone this groundbreaking is,” enthused Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster, who was on hand for the groundbreaking. “We’ve been working towards this for so many years, and now our plans for a South Bowmanville Recreation Centre are becoming very real.
