It was a hot and sunny day – the kind of perfect day Canadian travellers hope for when they leave the winter weather behind in search of blue oceans and palm trees – in Punta Cana on Christmas Day in 2018 when Lucian Zamfir accepted the drink he believes changed his life forever.

While walking to a restaurant at the Grand Bahia Principe Punta Cana Resort in the Dominican Republic, Zamfir, who was enjoying some tropical respite with his wife, daughter and son-in-law, says he accepted an unusual looking drink at a hotel bar.
