Ontario pharmaceutical company under investigation for alleged misconduct [Video]

An Ontario pharmaceutical company is currently under investigation for alleged misconduct.

Today, the Competition Bureau of Canada released a statement concerning the Ontario-based mail-in prescription company Express Scripts Canada.

The bureau has indicated that it intends to move forward with an investigation into the company concerning several alleged instances of anti-competitive conduct that have recently come to light.

According to the Competition Bureau, the first alleged instance is that Express Scripts Canada has, via Preferred Provider Networks, coerced patients looking for medication to use pharmacies associated with the company instead of pharmacies of their choosing.

The second suspected offence is that Express Scripts Canada has engaged in margin squeezing by increasing its Pharmacy Benefit Manager service fee, making the company more difficult to audit by financial institutions.

The Bureau has indicated that no conclusions have been made at this time.
