The winter storm that dumped 25 centimetres and more of snow Wednesday night has created havoc with recreation programs around Durham Region, with all public facilities in Pickering closed until 5 p.m., recreation centres in Clarington and Scugog opening later this morning and municipal offices in Brock Township shut down for the day.

Recreation facilities and programs remain open and on schedule in Oshawa and Whitby.

  • Libraries and community centres will open to the public at 5 p.m. in Pickering, with operations centres and fire halls unaffected.
  • Recreation facilities in Clarington will open at noon.
  • The township office in Scugog will re-open at 10:30 this morning with limited staffing. The Scugog Community Recreation Centre will remain open.
  • The municipal office in Brock Township will be closed for the day due to the storm. All schools in Brock are also closed as there are no crossing guards on duty.

Region-wide, all school-based childcare centres will be closed.
