Open & Closed Easter Sunday in southern Ontario cities and Toronto [Video]

Easter Sunday 2025 falls on April 20, marking the centrepiece of the Easter long weekend in Ontario.

One of the holiest days in the Christian calendar, Easter Sunday—also known as Pascha or Resurrection Sunday—commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, as described in the New Testament.

Across southern Ontario, many businesses and public services will be closed on Easter Sunday, including the LCBO, The Beer Store, banks, libraries, Costco’s and most non-emergency government offices in cities such as Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Halton, Durham, and Niagara.

While Good Friday (April 18) and Easter Monday (April 21) also bring closures, Easter Sunday typically sees the most widespread shutdowns. Schools will be closed for the holiday Monday, and some additional municipal services may also be unavailable.
