Oregon firefighters deployed to help with wildfires in Canada, other US states [Video]

SALEM, Ore. (KPTV) – Nearly two dozen firefighters from Oregon have been deployed to help battle wildfires in Canada and three other states.

The Oregon Department of Forestry said 14 firefighters have been sent to Alberta, Canada, and four to Alaska as part of the Northwest Compact agreement. Three firefighters are going to Minnesota and one to Florida through state-to-state mutual aid agreements.

“These agreements help bolster Oregon’s complete and coordinated fire protection system and create a cache of reciprocal resources for all of us to call on when needed,” said Michael Curran, ODF’s Fire Protection Division Chief.
