Ottawa weather: Freezing drizzle advisory in effect [Video]

Environment Canada has issued a freezing drizzle advisory, warning of slippery road conditions tonight.

Freezing rain fell on Ottawa throughout the day on Saturday and a patchy drizzle is expected to continue into Sunday.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Freezing drizzle can produce thin, hard-to-detect layers of ice,” Environment Canada says.

The City of Ottawa says its crews are treating sidewalks, arterial roads and the winter cycling network.

A freezing rain warning is in effect in western Quebec, including Gatineau. A weather warning issued in Ottawa on Friday evening has been lifted.

The Kingston region is under a rainfall warning, with 20 to 40 millimetres of rain forecasted on Sunday.
