There are over 100 non-contained wildfires currently happening across Canada.
A report today on behalf of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada indicated that numerous ministries gathered to assess the ongoing summer wildfire season across provinces.
As part of this assessment, Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience–Eleanor Olszewski–reported that there are currently 225 wildfires in Canada, with 121 of them out of control.
The total area burned so far this year has been over 3.7 million hectares.
“Through strong cooperation with provinces, territories, Indigenous communities, international partners, and non-governmental organizations, we are taking action to protect Canadians from wildfires. We’re here for Canadians, and your safety will always be our priority,” said Olszewski in a statement.
Concerning active evacuations, two Requests for Federal Assistance (RFA) on May 28 to support the Pimicikamak and Mathias Colomb Cree Nations in Manitoba were executed.
