An Ontario real estate company has been charged with allegedly selling over 400 homes through illegal means.

The Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA)–an oversight authority on Ontario residential real estate–released a report today indicating multiple enterprises operating under the banner of Stateview Homes committed hundreds of alleged violations in connection with real estate transactions.

These include selling homes without a valid licence and failing to secure approvals in Ontario’s new home warranty program.

“To legally sell new homes in Ontario, builders must be licensed by the HCRA, obtain Tarion authorization, and enroll each home in the warranty program. Compliance with all regulatory requirements is not optional. Builders who do not meet these obligations are operating illegally,” said Wendy Moir, CEO of the HCRA.

The HRCA’s investigation of Stateview has been ongoing for several years, and Stateview’s licences were suspended in 2023.
