Two men have been arrested after police say they tried to avoid a checkpoint in Bishopville, N.S.

Police conducting a checkpoint on Bishopville Road around 6 p.m. Saturday saw an approaching vehicle turn around and drive away.

Police say officers pulled the vehicle over, which was a GMC Sierra.

The force says the driver, a 39-year-old man from Alberta, was in violation of his parole conditions.

The passenger, a 28-year-old Prince Edward Island man, initially gave a false name, according to an RCMP news release.

Police confirmed the man’s identity, who was wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant for being illegally at large.

Both men were arrested and remanded into custody.
