Partial re-opening of Main Street in popular Ontario tourist town slated for Sunday [Video]

A full closure of Prince Edward County’s main tourist street that had threatened to disrupt traffic well into the tourism season will be partially re-opened to the public June 1.

Work on a new trunk watermain and trunk sanitary sewer for Wellington Main Street was ramped up earlier this year (with workers on the job 24 hours a day for five days a week) to try and get the road back open by early spring but the weather conspired to delay the project by a few weeks.

The section of Wellington Main Street between the water and wastewater treatment plants and Cleminson Street is slated to re-open officially on Sunday.

The additional cost associated with the accelerated construction is covered by the contingency built into the project budget approved by county council.
