SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – Parts of Western Mass will be experiencing poor air quality on Friday due to the smoke from Canadian Wildfires.

The Environmental Protection Agency is encouraging people to check their Air Quality Index throughout the day and to stay inside with the windows closed.

Experts are predicting elevated levels of smoke and debris in the air due to the wildfires in Quebec and Western Canada.

Reports of hazy skies, reduced visibility, and the odor of burning wood will be likely in parts of Central and Western Mass areas, New Hampshire, And Vermont throughout the day.

The EPA say exposure to poor air quality can affect both your lungs and heart which may lead to breathing problems so it’s best to refrain from any outdoor activities, especially for children and those with pre-existing medical conditions.
