Members of OCEU/CUPE Local 1750, representing striking employees at the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), formed a picket line Monday in front of Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy’s riding office in Pickering.
About 4,000 employees at the WSIB are now engaged in a full strike after beginning with rolling strikes late last week.
The workers have been at picket lines across Ontario since last Thursday after conversations between management and the union stalled, with the union claiming their employer failed to come to the table with a proposal that would address the core issues of workload and workplace culture.
“Our members are proud to serve injured workers in Ontario,” said OCEU President Harry Goslin. “That includes workers here in Durham. We need the Ford government to put pressure on the WSIB management to get back to the table so we can get back to work.”
