Pilot in helicopter crash that injured 3 in Canada left scene, didn’t have licence: police [Video]

The pilot of a helicopter that crashed in Canada, leaving three people injured, didn’t have a licence and left the scene, police say.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announced this week that charges had been laid in connection with the Aug. 12, 2023 crash in British Columbia.

Police said that at around 8:23 p.m., officers received a report of a helicopter crash in Hupel, BC, which is northeast of Vernon.

“The helicopter reportedly crashed into a shallow section of the Shuswap River near Mabel Lake,” police said at the time.

Officers said the initial investigation determined that four people were on the helicopter, three of whom were taken to hospital with injuries that were reported to be non-life-threatening.

“One person, believed to be the pilot, left the scene in a vehicle prior to arrival of emergency personnel and remains unaccounted for,” police said.
