MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) – The dreaded polar vortex may have Mid-Michigan feeling more like the arctic next week.
A pool of very cold air is expected to drop south from northern Canada into the Great Lakes region on Sunday through Wednesday, potentially bringing the coldest temperatures seen in Mid-Michigan over at least two or three years.
The Storm Tracker 12 Weather Team has declared Alert Days for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday due to the potential for dangerously cold temperatures and wind chill readings all three days.
High temperatures on Monday and Tuesday likely will remain in the single digits. Wind chill readings from Sunday night through Wednesday morning could plummet to -5 or -15 degrees in Mid-Michigan.
Localized wind chills could be even colder in some open and low-lying areas. Frostbite is possible in 30 minutes or less in wind chill readings that cold, so residents should limit their time outdoors …
