Granted, Beaverton – located on the southeast coast of Lake Simcoe – is more than 100 kilometres from downtown Toronto but it IS in Durham Region (and technically the GTA) and Durham Police were quick to remind residents to give the animal plenty of space after one was spotted near Mill Street and bay Street in Beaverton just before noon Saturday.

Officers have checked the area and spoken with residents. The bear was last seen heading south on Mill Street and police said It appears the bear has returned to the wooded area.
