Police cleared by Ontario’s SIU after man jumps from Oshawa hospital’s 7th-floor roof [Video]

An investigation by Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit into the death of a man who jumped from the seventh-floor parking garage roof at Oshawa Hospital in November found “no reasonable grounds” for charges to be laid against the Durham Police officers on the scene trying to talk the man to safety.

In fact, said SIU Director Joseph Martino, there was a “collective effort” by all the attending officers to assure him that they were there to provide help, and that “there was a future for him.”

In the early hours of November 12 police received a 911 call about a man in distress on the rooftop parking garage of Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

The man had self harmed, prompting his mother to take him to hospital where police were told he was threatening suicide.
