Police in Ontario, Quebec and from around the world are working to crack down on an online platform allegedly used in cyber scams in Canada.
The multi-country investigation dubbed Project NOVA launched earlier this month with police going after users of the online platform LabHost.
The RCMP says the platform can be used “to launch widespread phishing and cyber scams in Canada and around the world.”
The operation involved investigators from more than 30 agencies including the RCMP, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, Peel Regional Police, the Ottawa Police Service, as well as police in Quebec, the Netherlands, Lithuania, and Ireland among other countries.
Since Monday, police say 10 search warrants have been served against LabHost users and there are more than 118 “enforcement actions” underway against alleged offenders, including fines, warning letters “and in-person engagements.”
