Two Toronto residents are facing firearm and drug charges after fleeing from police in Whitby Friday.

A third suspect remains outstanding.

Durham Police were conducting proactive patrols near Paisley Court and Consumers Drive just after 2 a.m. on April 4 when they attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle did not comply and collided with the cruiser before the three occupants fled on foot. Following a brief foot pursuit, two of the suspects were caught a short distance from the scene and taken into custody.

A loaded firearm with an overcapacity magazine was seized along with additional ammunition and a magazine. One of the suspects was also wearing a body armor vest when taken into custody. A quantity of drugs and Canadian currency was also seized.

Shurron Simon, 18, is charged with five weapons charges, trafficking in morphine, obstruct police and resist arrest.
