Police hope photos help find man wanted for hate-motivated graffiti in Ontario town [Video]

Investigators have released two blurry photographs in the hopes they can help identify a man wanted for multiple hate-motivated graffiti incidents targeting those of the Islamic faith in Whitby.

Durham Police responded to several locations of anti-Muslim graffiti in Whitby on Tuesday, with the language described as “offensive” and having a “significant impact on our Muslim community.”

Efforts were immediately taken to remove the graffiti and the investigation remains ongoing, with the Durham Police Hate Crime Unit assisting with the case.

Police are appealing for video footage, including security footage or dashcam, from the following areas:

  • Thickson Road South between Consumers Drive and Dundas Street East on Tuesday, May 20, between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m.
  • Dundas Street between Hopkins Street and Annes Street on Tuesday between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m.

The suspect is described as a male with a slim build, wearing dark coloured jacket and pants.
