Durham Police are asking the public’s help in identifying a suspect involved in an online marketplace fraud investigation in Bowmanville.

Police said the suspect arrived at the victim’s residence on March 8 at approximately 8:30 a.m. to pick up an item that was posted online. The suspect presented a screenshot as proof the e-transfer had been completed; later determined by investigators to be false. The suspect, described as east Asian, 25-30 years old, also produced a fraudulent driver’s license, police added.

The man was driving a red Nissan Rogue with stolen licence plates.

Police believe that there may be additional victims and is asking that anyone with surveillance footage, dash cam footage, or any information about this incident to contact Det. Chapman of Financial Crimes Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5352.

Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at http://durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
