Three people including an officer with the Halton Regional Police Service have been arrested and charged in connection with investment fraud schemes in Ontario.
The case dates back to at least February 2023 when the OPP received multiple reports of frauds linked to “an investment scheme.”
Police haven’t said how much money was lost in the fraud but called the scheme “complex,” saying the suspects were active in multiple jurisdictions.
Now more than two years after the investigation began, police say three people were arrested and charged.
One of the accused is Jon Williams – an 18-year veteran with Halton Regional Police, who says the officer has been “suspended from duty with pay” under the Community Safety and Policing Act.
“The HRPS thanks the OPP for leading this investigation and for ensuring transparency and fairness to all involved throughout,” Halton police said in a statement.
