LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) – A K-9 officer with a Las Vegas school district is facing charges related to animal abuse after the death of his K-9.
Clark County School District Police submitted charges against one of their K-9 officers, 54-year-old James Harris, after his K-9, who was named Marley, died unexpectedly in November, KVVU reports.
Officials say an investigation took place after K-9 Marley’s death. Harris is facing two misdemeanor charges for leaving an animal unattended in a car and failing to provide proper air, food, shelter or water to an impounded animal.
K-9 Marley was a 5-year-old black American Labrador retriever who became a part of the school district’s police force in 2020. He died at a Las Vegas Valley animal hospital after being brought in for medical attention.
Harris has been assigned to stay home with pay. He has been employed by the school district as a K-9 officer since January 2003.
