UPDATE: Perth Amboy police officer shot 3 times is recovering in hospital. Suspects in custody.

A police officer was shot on Wednesday night in the city of Rahway, the New Jersey State Policeman’s Benevolent Association said.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the PBA said the officer was being treated at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

The association did not release the circumstances of the shooting.

A spokesperson for the Rahway Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Union County Prosecutor’s Office did not immediately respond to a request, either.
