Police warn residents about rising drug overdoses in Kenora, ON [Video]

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Kenora, Ont., is raising concerns about an increase of suspected drug overdoses.

In a news release issued Saturday, OPP reminded people about the dangers of using illicit substances from unregulated sources, adding that the force has recently seen a rise in overdoses.

Police also provided a list of signs and symptoms to watch out for, which includes:

• difficulty walking, talking and staying awake;
• blue lips or nails;
• very small pupils;
• cold and clammy skin;
• dizziness and confusion;
• extreme drowsiness;
• choking, gurgling, or snoring sounds;
• slow, weak or no breathing;
• inability to wake up, even when shaken or shouted at.

People are encouraged to call 911 if they or someone they know is experiencing an overdose. They’re also asked to safely dispose of any expired or unused medication, and contact police if they come across something they believe could be illegal drugs.
