Residents can have their say on the province’s controversial plans to move services like waste collection and maintenance on some roads from the Region of Peel to Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon.

Last week, Queen’s Park said the anticipated download of services from the region to individual municipalities would be finalized in 2026.

The original plan was to breakup the region into stand-alone municipalities.

But that pledge – made by Ontario Premier Doug Ford to former Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion on her deathbed – was scrapped in favour of a “recalibrated scope” to transfer services like waste collection to the cities and town.

With the Peel Transition Implementation Act going through the motions at Queen’s Park, the province wants to hear from residents about the proposed legislation.
