About a dozen students gathered around a shop whiteboard, calculating angles before joining carefully cut pieces of wood to make seamless corners.

On Monday, students from Hamilton, Halton and Niagara were learning to use power tools, practising precision with table and hand saws. Other days, they might be learning to rig and hoist heavy materials, read blueprints or operate forklifts, skid steers and mini excavators.
