Popular trail in eastern Ontario closed due to flooding [Video]

The entire Bowmanville Valley Trail has been closed until further notice after heavy rains Wednesday caused the creek banks to overflow onto the pathways.

The trail is closed to the public from Highway 2 down to the Waterfront Trail from the extreme heavy rain and flooding, making the trail “unsafe.”

“For everyone’s safety, the trail is now closed to the public,” the Central Lakes Conservation Authority (CLOCA) said in a news release.

Spring rain and snowmelt can contribute to higher water levels and increased water velocities in rivers and streams and CLOCA is advising residents and visitors to keep back from fast-moving water or water overfilling its banks.

“Remind children to stay away from bodies of water and keep pets on a leash.”
