Potential closure of West Island clinic threatens access to health care for thousands [Video]

Statcare Emergency Clinic in Pointe-Claire is facing closure, putting thousands of patients at risk of losing access to health care.

Last week, the clinic’s owner, ELNA Medical, was granted creditor protection.

Catherine Brady, whose family has been consulting at the clinic for over a decade, is concerned about the potential shutdown.

“It’s going to affect the West Island in a huge way,” she said, adding that her doctor is worried as well.

“Obviously, he’s disappointed as well too. They are going to try to do everything they can. It’s unsustainable for us not to have this clinic, it needs to stay open.”

A source told CTV News that Statcare will be laying off four employees as concerns grow about its potential closure.

Pointe-Claire Mayor Tim Thomas said that if the clinic does close, it will put additional pressure on the Lakeshore General Hospital.
