Potential tariffs could increase home prices in Spokane by 10% [Video]

SPOKANE, Wash. – Experts are raising concerns about potential increases in home prices in Washington, Oregon and Idaho in 2025. This comes as President-elect Donald Trump has promised tariffs that could impact the cost of building materials.

The Spokane Home Builders Association said that much of the lumber used in the northwest is sourced from Canada. Joel White from the association noted, “The promised tariffs could drive home prices in Spokane up by 10%.”

This is not the first time lumber has been affected by trade policies. The United States has argued that Canada unfairly subsidizes logging by charging companies less to cut trees from government-owned land compared to the U.S.

White explained the complex trade relationship, stating, “It is a complicated relationship that could be disrupted by widespread tariffs without exceptions.”
