A significant and “unpredictable” weather system is expected to bring heavy rain and freezing rain to Mississauga and surrounding areas that could result in flooding, power outages and widespread traffic disruptions, city officials warn.

The nasty weather, to include a “substantial amount of rain,” is forecast to arrive Wednesday afternoon and continue overnight into Thursday.

“Starting this afternoon, heavy rain is expected to create wet and slippery road and sidewalks. Environment Canada has issued both rainfall and freezing rain warnings for Mississauga, anticipating rain totals of 30 to 50 millimetres in some areas,” the City of Mississauga said in a news release Wednesday morning. “Precipitation is expected to continue from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning. Given the unpredictable nature of this weather system, it is important to be prepared.”
