Many communities across southern Ontario woke up to power outages Wednesday.
Thunderstorms and strong winds hit much of southern Ontario Tuesday afternoon and evening. Winds of up to 110 km/h with a tornado risk were forecast.
The power was out in parts of Toronto Wednesday morning including areas in North York, north Etobicoke and Scarborough. About 27,000 customers without power at the peak of the storm, Toronto Hydro told news outlets.
Alectra reported outages in Guelph, Mississauga and St. Catharines on Wednesday. There were multiple outages in Hamilton.
Crews worked through the early morning hours to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. By around 8 a.m., Alectra had power restored to some areas. The estimated time for restoration in St. Catherines was 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and in Hamilton by 9 a.m.
All power was expected to be restored in Toronto by noon.
