FORT ST. JOHN –A traffic stop in Fort St. John had led to the arrest of a known prolific offender and the seizure of an illegal firearm.

According to RCMP, at 2:44 a.m. this morning, a frontline officer pulled over a white GMC Envoy on the 10800 block of Alaska Road North believed to have been involved in a recent ‘flight from police’ incident.

Upon investigation, it was determined that the suspected driver, Kelly Shular, had recently fled from police and had multiple outstanding warrants.

Mounties say a loaded sawed-off shotgun was found in the vehicle. It was also determined that Shular was already prohibited from possessing firearms.

“A proactive traffic stop by one of our officers, led to getting a prohibited weapon out of the hands of the criminal element and keeping our community safer,” said Constable Chad Neustaeter, Media Relations Officer for the Fort St John RCMP.

He now faces several new charges
