A multi million-dollar agricultural science centre has a new name, and a potential new home.
The former Huron Perth Agricultural Science Centre will now officially be known as the Ontario Agri-Food Discovery Centre.
The new name reflects the province wide mandate they expect to have, say organizers.
The proposed centre also has a potential home, once it’s built. The Municipality of North Perth has set aside 10 acres of serviced land on the west side of Listowel near Binning Street and Road 165.
The agricultural innovation centre has been discussed since 2020. The goal, say organizers is to build a permanent year-round showcase for Ontario’s agriculture and food industries, with a focus on technology and opportunities that exist in the industry.
The potential cost ranges anywhere from $20 to $38 million. Organizers anticipate raising half the building costs from the private sector, and the other have from government grants.
