Quebec extends reduced cost of driver’s license for another year [Video]

Quebec is extending the reduced cost of a driver’s licence for a fourth year, announced Transport Minister Geneviève Guilbault on Friday.

As a result, a driver with a Class 5 licence who has no demerit points will only have to pay $26.25, rather than $118.41, to renew his or her licence in 2025.

“This rebate is possible thanks to the reduction in compensation amounts payable to road accident victims since 2020, and to an increase in the yield of the Fonds d’assurance automobile du Québec and the sums available in it,” reads a news release issued by the Quebec auto insurance board (SAAQ).

Due to the month-long strike by Canada Post workers, Guilbault also announced that the validity period for driver’s licences and registrations expiring between Friday and Feb. 28 will be extended.
