The province is increasing funding for the Quebec mining institute (INMQ) from $1 million to $1.5 million for the 2024-2025 financial year.

The role of this little-known institute is to oversee the training of workers in the mining sector. It also advises the government.

Education Minister Bernard Drainville made the announcement on Wednesday, accompanied by Abitibi-Est MNA Pierre Dufour.

The Institute points out that three training programs are particularly in demand in the mining sector: the Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) in Construction Equipment Mechanics, the Diploma of College Studies (DCS) in Mineral Technology and the Bachelor of Mining Engineering.
