Quick action from police officers in Oshawa and Clarington helped save two lives Sunday.

Officers found a man “bleeding heavily” from a serious wound in Oshawa in the early hours of Sunday morning and were able to stop the bleeding and stabilize him long enough for the arrival of paramedics.

Later that day police responded to a man who had capsized his canoe on the Clarington side of McLaughlin Bay and were able to pull him to shore in time for EMS to provide medical treatment.

Durham Police reported that officers found a man “in crisis” just before 12:30 a.m. near King Street and Nassau Street, immediately west of downtown Oshawa and were able to take “quick and decisive action” that was “critical” in saving his life.

The officers immediately applied a tourniquet and provided first aid to stem the blood flow and were able to keep him stable until …
