Mounties are searching for two suspects who allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of cash from a bank on Vancouver Island.
No threats were made and no weapons were produced during what the Nanaimo RCMP described in a statement as a “crime of opportunity.”
According to police, the theft occurred at a Bank of Montreal branch located at 6908 Island Hwy. at approximately 1:45 p.m. Friday.
Bank employees told investigators that a customer was in the process of withdrawing money from the bank when a man who was waiting in line snatched the money and promptly left with a woman who police described as an accomplice.
Mounties were on scene within minutes of the theft, but were unable to locate the suspects, the Nanaimo RCMP said in a statement Monday.
No injuries were reported as a result of the theft, according to police.
