More than 184,000 travel mugs sold in Canada pose a burn risk, prompting a recall, officials say.

The affected products are the “Switchback” and “Trigger Action” Stanley mugs with a plastic black lid, which were sold in a variety of colours and sizes.

“The threads on affected lids of the travel mug can shrink when exposed to heat and torque which can cause the lids to unexpectedly detach from the mug during use, posing a risk of burn injury to consumers,” Health Canada said.

“As of Dec. 12, 2024, the company has received three reports of incidents for which one burn injury was reported in Canada. In the United States, the company has received 16 reports of incidents and two reports of burn injuries.”

Customers were advised to immediately stop using the mugs and contact Stanley for a free replacement lid.
