It’s not official, but sources indicate a recount of votes in a Mississauga riding from the recent Ontario election confirms the original result.
According to the sources, Progressive Conservative Sheref Sabawy came out on top once more when the votes were counted again in Mississauga-Erin Mills.
But it was very close.
When votes were originally tabulated on Feb. 27, it showed that Sabawy received just 20 votes (16,665 votes) more than runner-up Liberal Qasir Dar (16,645 votes).
Under Ontario election rules, if a margin of victory is less than 25 votes, the riding’s returning office must ask a judge to order a recount. The judge agreed and the recount took place.
The recounting of votes took place on Monday, and the votes separating the two were again close but not enough to change the result.
The decision is not official but sources told INsauga.com that Sabawy’s narrow margin of victory was upheld.
