Red Flag Warning in Connecticut could impact Berlin fire [Video]

NEWINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — The Red Flag Warning issued for Connecticut signals to firefighters that they could see “erratic” fire behavior.

Certainly not what they need after working tirelessly to contain the flames of the Hawthorne Fire.

Local crews have been exhausted after battling this fire for 12 days with little sleep, so crews from Quebec have arrived to relieve them. Firefighters from California are also on their way.

The Hawthorne Fire currently sits at around 120 acres.

As of last night, the number of active fires, and hotspots around the state have passed 90 and are approaching 100 because of the hot, dry conditions.

“I would like to remind everybody to check with your local fire departments there are multiple fire Bands on the district level and make sure you’re following appropriate laws and rules,” Tom Trask from DEEP Forest Protection said.
