SOUTHEASTERN N.C. (WECT) – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Red Flag Warning for beaches in Pender, New Hanover, and Brunswick Counties.

According to the NWS, the warning spans along the coast from Surf City to Sunset Beach.

Rip Currents Flow(WCTV)

The NWS says a Red Flag Warning means life-threatening rip currents are likely and the surf zone is dangerous for all swimmers.

NWS offers the following tips if you find yourself caught in a rip current:

  • Yell for help.
  • Remain calm.
  • Do not tire yourself out.
  • If you have to swim out, swim parallel to the shore.
