At the funeral for the estranged wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the dead woman’s A.A. sponsor approached another mourner outside the church.

The sponsor related a troubling story about how she came to be the person who discovered Mary Richardson Kennedy hanging in the barn on the family’s estate in Bedford, N.Y.
