May accidents have already been reported and more than a hundred school districts have closed classes for the day.
Temperatures will move into the low 30s as the snow tapers off.
Overnight lows dip into the teens, with some partial clearing.
Colder air moves in over the weekend.
Look for Saturday temperatures to top out in the upper teens to low 20s and low to mid 20s Sunday.
Some lake effect snow bands are possible Saturday over the Thumb.
Next week will be milder heading into Christmas, Hanukkah and beyond.
