The Rowan House Society was recently given a shoutout in the Alberta Legislature.
Livingstone-Macleod MLA Chelsae Petrovic addressed her fellow MLAs during the first session of their 2025 Spring Sitting.
She highlighted the non-profit women’s shelter’s efforts over the last 25 years to provide support to survivors of domestic abuse and to break the cycle of violence.
“What began in 2000 as a tiny two-bedroom basement shelter near Black Diamond has now grown into a state of the art, high-security facility in High River serving communities from Calgary to Claresholm and Vulcan,” said Petrovic. “Over the years, Rowan House has provided life-saving emergency shelter, outreach services, and preventative education, transforming countless lives.”
Petrovic also highlighted their survivor counselling and support services, and their preventative education work, which provided programs to 6,230 students last year.
