ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – At least one Russian military aircraft was spotted in the skies near Alaska on Tuesday, officials said.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command — or NORAD — stated in a release that an untold number of Russian aircraft were tracked in the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) on Tuesday, which is considered international airspace.

The agency said the Russian aircraft stayed in international airspace and was not considered a threat.

It was at least the second time this year that Russian aircraft were spotted and tracked in the region. Multiple Russian planes were tracked by Alaska and Canadian patrols on Jan. 30 of this year in another instance when Russian aircraft were spotted. That was also seen as a non-threat.
